Link between Cascadia and San Andreas Fault earthquakes discovered
A new research suggests that a "Big One" on the Cascadia subduction zone might trigger a serious earthquake on California's San Andreas Fault.
Geological records from sediments taken off the coast of Cape Mendocino, California and offshore Oregon indicate a possible link between the two fault systems.
- At least three San Andreas earthquakes have occurred within hours to a couple of days after large Cascadia quakes.
- Another seven or so may have occurred within decades to years or less.
