Teenager Dies from Brain Damage Caused by Inhaling Aerosol Deodorant

Sarah Mescall, a 14-year-old from Co Clare, died from irreversible brain damage after inhaling the contents of an aerosol deodorant.

According to the inquest at Dublin District Coroner's Court, Sarah became unwell at her family home after sniffing the deodorant, which her mother had bought just hours earlier.

The pathologist, Michael McDermott, noted a long association between the inhalation of "volatile substances" and sudden, unexpected deaths.
