The Supreme Court imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on Prem Aggarwal for unduly resisting property possession despite receiving Rs 2 crore in compensation.
The court had dismissed Aggarwal's suit for specific performance concerning an agreement to sell from 1989 and awarded him Rs 2 crore, a significant amount considering the original earnest money paid was Rs 25,000 for the property valued at Rs 14.50 lakh at the time.
Some litigants, it seems, cannot take yes for an answer.
The bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta observed that Aggarwal "shot himself in the foot" by refusing to vacate the premises despite the massive compensation.
