The Belgian Ambassador to Nigeria, Pieter Leenknegt, announced that cocoa has surpassed crude oil as the main export product from Nigeria to Belgium since 2024.
During a courtesy visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, Leenknegt stated that Belgium has a strong affinity for producing high-quality chocolate, which necessitates an increased supply of cocoa from Nigeria as a primary raw material.
We understand that Oyo state is also a cocoa-growing state. We have some good cocoa-related news in our bilateral relations. Since 2024, cocoa has been overtaking crude oil as the main export product from Nigeria to Belgium.
