Arizona Attorney General Threatens to Sue House Speaker

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes is giving House Speaker Mike Johnson an ultimatum: schedule Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva's swearing-in ceremony within two days or face a lawsuit.

Grijalva was elected to represent Arizona's 7th Congressional District three weeks ago but has yet to be sworn in. Mayes sent a letter to Johnson's office on Tuesday, stating that the oath of office ceremony must take place before the end of the federal government shutdown.

Mayes announced that she was sending the letter during the official canvas of the Sept. 23 special election results on Tuesday morning.

The letter was sent as a procedural step in the election process, which also involved Arizona Gov.
