Rochester Institute of Technology awarded $272,000 for a second ambulance

Rochester Institute of Technology Expands Ambulance Service

Rochester Institute of Technology's ambulance service is doubling its fleet of vehicles with the addition of a second ambulance, acquired through a $272,000 grant from the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York.

The university's emergency medical service, RIT Ambulance, will have more than one vehicle for the first time since 1981, enhancing its ability to respond to on- and off-campus calls.

“One of the main things we were seeing is, of course, increasing our ability to respond in all instances, our abilities to cover standbys and cover calls at the same time,”

said John Chizmadia, captain of training and clinical care. He added that having only one vehicle previously limited their ability to respond to other calls when required to be present at events like hockey games on campus.

Author's summary: RIT expands ambulance service with a second vehicle.
