A proposal to relocate the bottle banks at Purth church has been submitted by Councillor Garry Murtagh.
Longford County Council's Regeneration Team is currently assessing the situation. The proposal was made during the September meeting of Granard Municipal District, where Cllr Murtagh stated that every area should have a bottle bank to promote recycling.
"I'm told that it is on track so if it's possible to look at moving the bottle bank at Purth which is causing concern to some of the residents living out there because it is attracting vermin and it is within about 25-metres from a house."
The motion was seconded by Independent Cllr Turlough McGovern, who described it as a "very good motion".
The council is working with the local authority to acquire ground from Coillte for the development of a new car park in Derrycasin woods/Mullinalaghta.
