Millions of dollars pour into South Dakota for pheasant hunting season

Pheasant Hunting Season in South Dakota

Millions of dollars are expected to pour into South Dakota for the pheasant hunting season, which runs from October 31.

Last year's season saw the most birds harvested in a decade, according to the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department's Upland Outlook.

“We had that mild winter, so we know there were a lot of birds left on the landscape. When you have those tough winters, that's when we aren't set up just as perfectly,”

said Nick Harrington, spokesman for the GFP. Other popular small game, like prairie grouse, had their highest numbers in 25 years.

Author's summary: South Dakota expects a successful pheasant hunting season.
