Premier Mum About Cost of 'Greedy Bill'

During a press conference on Oct. 3, Premier Natalio "Sowande" Wheatley promised to provide information about public spending under the "Greedy Bill".

The bill, officially called the Retiring Allowances (Legislative Service) (Amendment) Act, 2021, sparked outrage due to a provision allowing House of Assembly members to be paid their full salaries for up to four years after leaving office.

Although the provision was repealed after the 2023 general election, an amendment in October 2023 permitted members of the previous House to keep post-term salary payments unless they submitted a written request to decline them.

The bill included a provision that allowed House of Assembly members to be paid their full salaries for up to four years after leaving office.

Premier Wheatley has yet to provide the promised information, nearly two weeks after the press conference.

Author's summary: Premier Wheatley remains silent on "Greedy Bill" costs.
