Charges Laid Against Key Suspect in Tembisa Hospital Theft
DA MPL, Jack Bloom, reports that Lerato Madyo, the former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Gauteng Health Department, has had criminal charges laid against her.
The charges stem from Madyo's failure to act on a report by slain whistleblower Babita Deokaran, which highlighted possible fraudulent transactions at the Tembisa Hospital.
"Morning CFO, I am just worried that the guys in Tembisa are going to realise we are onto something. Our lives could be in danger."
Babita Deokaran sent this WhatsApp message to Madyo shortly before her death. Initially, Madyo froze R104 million in payments to suspicious companies flagged by Babita, but later allowed the payments to proceed.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng has taken action against Madyo for her inaction.
