Maine County Budget Process
Each of Maine's 16 counties has its own budget process, described in a separate section of the statute.
Some counties have charters that refine or clarify their budget processes, while others operate under similar rules, such as Franklin County's.
County budget committees, made up of municipal officials or citizens, are generally elected at caucuses or appointed by commissioners or legislative delegations.
- Androscoggin County has a 14-member budget committee that transmits a final budget to the seven county commissioners.
