Hawaiian Telcom Expands Fiber Optic Network on Hawai‘i Island
Hawaiian Telcom continues to expand its fiber optic network, aiming to provide stronger and more resilient internet service throughout the state, including rural areas.
The expansion requires trimming vegetation in certain public easements in Volcano over a 4-month period starting from October 20, 2026. This may involve temporarily parking trucks on one-lane roads, potentially impacting access to homes.
Hawaiian Telcom has contracted two local businesses, Big Island Tree Service and Kīpapa Traffic Management, to ensure the work is done efficiently and residents have access to their homes.
By the end of 2026, Hawai‘i Island is expected to be fully fiber-enabled, making Hawai‘i the first fully fiber-enabled state in the nation.
