The Diet, Japan's parliament, nominated Sanae Takaichi as prime minister on Tuesday.
Takaichi, president of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, will succeed Shigeru Ishiba and became the first Japanese woman to serve as prime minister.
Her election followed the LDP and Nippon Ishin no Kai's agreement to form a coalition government after Komeito's departure from the LDP-led ruling bloc.
Takaichi was elected LDP president on Oct. 4, after Ishiba's decision to step down due to the party's major election setbacks.
She is set to launch her cabinet in the evening after the attestation ceremonies.
Author's summary: Takaichi becomes Japan's first female prime minister.
