Tragic Incident in Asturias, Cebu
A 35-year-old father lost his life after saving his 12-year-old child from a whirlpool in a stream in Asturias town, midwest Cebu.
Ramil Bucay and his three children visited the stream on October 20, 2025, in Barangay Agtugop, drawn by the turquoise clear water. While swimming with one of his children, the 12-year-old got caught in the whirlpool's strong currents. Ramil rescued his child but failed to resurface himself.
His other two children, who were nearby, called for help. Responders later retrieved Ramil's body downstream and attempted to revive him, but unfortunately, he was found dead.
Aime Bucay, Ramil's cousin, had previously warned him about the dangers of the whirlpool, citing a past incident involving another relative who nearly drowned.
