Counting for the presidential election began at 9am and the result was announced at 7:30pm.
Catherine Connolly, the president-elect, pledged to be
"an inclusive president for all"in her speech.
She thanked her supporters and voters, and also addressed those who did not vote for her, stating that she would be their voice.
Connolly emphasized that she will be
"a president who listens and reflects and who speaks when it’s necessary", and will focus on issues such as peace, climate change, and neutrality.
