Private landowners and two nonprofit organizations announced a new conservation deal on Oct. 10 to protect 140 acres of undeveloped wildlife habitat on Big Mountain.
The conservation easement is located on private land near Whitefish Lake and the Whitefish Mountain Resort ski area, and is flanked by the Flathead National Forest and a separate 100-acre conservation easement.
This collaboration was made possible through a partnership between local landowners, Flathead Land Trust, and Heart of the Rockies Institute.
