Making Halloween Comfortable for Children with Speech Disorders

For children with speech or language disorders, saying "trick or treat" on Halloween can be challenging or scary.

“Don’t require that ‘trick-or-treat’ from them, because it could be that they actually need a little bit more time to process,”

said Lauren Arner, associate director of school services for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

She advises against pushing children to say the phrase, as they might be too nervous to say it out loud.

It's also essential to be understanding and prepared for no response when interacting with a child.
