How One Neighborhood Confronts ICE

Confronting ICE in Albany Park

A resident of Albany Park notes, "It's always quiet here, but out of nowhere, they decided to come, to hit our community."

The neighborhood, with a 74% Latino student body at Roosevelt High School, has become a focal point for community action against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.

"I'm never gonna understand the fear that it is to be brown under this administration, so I'm gonna stand on the corner and do what I can,"

says a young white woman, a member of the Northwest Side Rapid Response team, who stands watch on the corner of Wilson and St. Louis avenues, ready to signal the presence of ICE officers.
