No water for two years as R200-million project remains incomplete

Water Crisis at Vyeboom Clinic

Vyeboom Clinic, located near Vuwani in Limpopo, has been without running water for nearly two years due to the incomplete R200-million Malonga Water Reticulation Project.

Staff and patients are forced to bring their own water and use pit toilets, with villagers relying on buying water from neighbors with boreholes or using wheelbarrows to transport containers.

“It is not easy to operate without running water,”
said a staff member, highlighting the severe compromise on hygiene and sanitation.

A resident, Mpho Musera, sometimes assists the clinic by purchasing water for its 5,000-litre tank, as the clinic's borehole has been dry for two years.

The incomplete project has affected at least seven villages and the clinic, leaving them without access to running water.

Author's summary: Vyeboom Clinic faces water crisis due to incomplete project.
