Hong Kong Tennis Open: Last China Players Exit as Top Seed Bencic Progresses
China's last two representatives at the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open were sent crashing out of the tournament on Wednesday, as No 1 seed Belinda Bencic marched on.
Zhang Shuai and Wang Yafan lost in straight sets, while Swiss No 1 Bencic continues her climb into the world top 10 after being ranked "913 or something" a year ago.
- Anna Kalinskaya defeated Zhang Shuai with a comprehensive 6-1, 6-1 victory.
- Bencic took down Wang Yafan in one hour and 16 minutes, winning 6-2, 6-2.
"I felt good on the court," Bencic said. "I tried to play aggressively, tried to play my game, and it worked out well.
Bencic came to Hong Kong off the back of winning the Japan Open, and her victory marks her sixth win in a row.
