Man Dies After Early Morning House Fire in Laurel
A man has died after an early morning house fire in Laurel on Thursday, according to Laurel Fire Chief Leo Brown.
The Laurel Fire Department received a call about a structure fire around 5:42 a.m. and multiple engines were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters reported heavy black smoke and flames billowing from the front of the residence.
- Crews deployed an attack line through the front entrance and conducted a room-by-room search.
- Firefighters found an unconscious man, identified as 68-year-old Joe Porter, Sr., on the kitchen floor.
- He was removed from the home and pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall’s Office.
