COVID-19 Vaccine Before ICI Initiation Tied to Increased Survival in Patients With Cancer

COVID-19 Vaccine and Cancer Treatment

A recent study has found that administering a COVID-19 vaccine to cancer patients within 100 days of starting immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) is associated with increased overall survival.

Researchers from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center extracted data from patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and melanoma who were treated with ICIs.

Administration of a COVID-19 vaccine within 100 days of ICI initiation was associated with increased overall survival.

The study was presented at the annual meeting of the European Society for Medical Oncology.
