City of Tshwane concerned about rise in typhoid cases

Typhoid Cases on the Rise in City of Tshwane

The City of Tshwane has expressed concern over the increasing number of typhoid cases in Bronkhorspruit and Hammanskraal.

Preliminary test results have not yet identified the source of contamination. The city is collaborating with the Department of Water and Sanitation and the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) to determine the cause of the outbreak.

The city would like to appeal to communities to refrain from using untreated river or borehole water for domestic purposes, as a precautionary measure. Only piped municipal water that has been properly treated and tested should be used for drinking and cooking.

Residents are advised to avoid using untreated water. The city is working to address the issue.
