Mexican Authorities Suspect Jalisco Cartel in Mayor's Assassination

Mexican authorities believe that Carlos Manzo Rodriguez, the mayor of Uruapan, was killed by the Jalisco Cartel, according to a recent report.

A source familiar with the investigation linked the killing to the capture of a local leader, Rene Belmonte, also known as Rino, by police in August. Rino was a close subordinate of the Alvarez Ayala brothers, top leaders in the Jalisco Cartel.

Following the arrest, violence increased in the region, including attacks on local police officers. A source also stated that the gunman, a young man between 17 and 19 years old, was connected to the cartel and was killed immediately after the shooting.

A local leader's capture and the subsequent violence are believed to be connected to the mayor's assassination.
