Australian Mining Cleanup Tech Emerges as Global Disruptor
An Australian-developed filtration system for mining waste could recover over $5 trillion worth of critical resources like copper and lithium trapped in wastewater worldwide, while reducing rehabilitation costs.
The breakthrough nano-technology, known as Bioderived Element Resource Separation Technology (BERST), is inspired by biological processes evolved by plants over billions of years and is being developed by scientists at the Australian National University in collaboration with Rio Tinto.
The technology has reached the prototype testing stage.
