United Way of Delta County has shifted its approach to serving the community, adopting an "issue-focused" model, with a particular emphasis on school readiness.
The traditional model for decades and decades was the workplace campaign — you’d go in and ask people to give money from payroll deductions, and that was really the bread and butter of United Way.
The organization recently hosted a Family Academy event at Bay College, which featured literacy-based activities and free books. One of the popular stations, Rhythm and Rhyme, showcased how music and rhythm can enhance literacy skills.
