Shootings in Mississippi Leave 8 Dead
High school homecoming celebrations in Mississippi ended in gunfire, with two separate shootings on opposite sides of the state Friday night.
At least eight people were killed and many more injured, authorities said. Four of the dead were killed in downtown Leland, and about 20 people were injured in the gunfire, according to state Sen. Derrick Simmons.
- Four of the injured were in critical condition and flown to a larger medical center in Jackson.
- A pregnant woman was among the dead in a separate shooting in the town of Heidelberg, which left two people dead.
Mississippi Gov. and Heidelberg Police Chief Cornell White declined to provide other information about the crimes.
