WHO Adopts AI to Combat Disease Outbreaks
The World Health Organisation (WHO) is leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to modernize its surveillance systems and bolster global health security.
In partnership with key stakeholders, the WHO has launched version 2.0 of the Epidemic Intelligence from Open Sources (EIOS) system, a global platform for early detection of public health threats.
- Launched in 2017, the initiative has grown to serve over 110 member states and 30 organizations worldwide.
- The updated EIOS system incorporates new data sources and enhanced functionalities, including AI.
The EIOS is hosted at the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence in Berlin and is the world's leading initiative for open-source intelligence in public health decision-making.
