Coastal Federation Publishes Guide for Docks and Piers Building Code
The North Carolina Coastal Federation has compiled a comprehensive guide to help local governments and coastal property owners understand new building codes for docks and piers.
The 2025 hurricane season is the first since the state's building code reinstated standards for residential docks and piers.
Kerri Allen, Coastal Advocate with the Coastal Federation, explained that the addition of these standards could help reduce harmful marine debris, as most post-storm debris is attributed to poorly constructed docks and piers.
The guide is the first of its kind in the state and aims to support local governments and property owners in navigating the new building codes.
