Former WWU Police Officer Under State Investigation

A former Western Washington University police officer, Robert Anderson, was fired after striking a handcuffed suspect during an arrest on campus in early 2024.

Anderson, 44, pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault in September 2024 following a criminal investigation by Mount Vernon Police Department.

Anderson was rehired, then quickly fired, by Lummi police after the incident.

An internal review by Bellingham Police Department found that Anderson's supervisor, WWU Police Sgt. Wolf Lipson, violated multiple WWU Police Department policies.
