Annual Old Town Gazebo 'Day of the Dead' Event Cancelled
The Día de Muertos Festival of Altars, organized by the Somos Medicina Collective since 2019, has been cancelled due to safety concerns.
"We feel that we cannot bring our people together safely at this time," said organizers
The event, which features food, music, dance, face painting, and ofrendas honoring ancestors and loved ones, was set to take place on November 2.
Organizers cited fears over the targeting of their community as the reason for the cancellation.
A recent survey also found that only half of Arcata residents think the city is heading in the right direction.
