Major Shake-Up at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement
The Department of Homeland Security is overhauling the leadership of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) amid frustration over deportation targets.
As many as 12 field directors within ICE are being replaced, with many being reassigned and some being replaced by senior agents from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
The move reflects frustration within the Trump administration over ICE's inability to meet its arrest target of roughly 3,000 undocumented immigrants per day, with internal figures showing an average of around 1,100 arrests daily.
According to officials, the shake-up is a performance-based adjustment, with many affected directors being shifted laterally rather than being purged.
The agency is averaging around 1,100 arrests daily, far below the benchmark set earlier this year.
