Bugonia Review: Emma Stone & Alicia Silverstone's Film Buzzes With Satirical Fury

Bugonia Review: A Satirical Fury

Yorgos Lanthimos's film, Bugonia, is a unique blend of corporate satire, eco-horror, and cosmic paranoia. The movie features Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone.

The film is a reimagining of the 2003 Korean cult film Save the Green Planet!, with a premise that is both absurd and plausible. A deluded beekeeper, Teddy (Jesse Plemons), kidnaps Michelle Fuller (Emma Stone), the CEO of a pesticide empire, believing it to be an alien plot to destroy humanity.

What unfolds is part torture thriller, part philosophical chess match, and part tragicomic fable about who’s really destroying the planet, and why we insist on believing in aliens rather than accountability.

Rating: ***1/2

Author's summary: Bugonia is a satirical film with a unique blend of genres.
