Democrats have made significant gains in both the Suffolk and Nassau County Legislatures, unseating a Republican incumbent in Suffolk and claiming an open seat in Nassau.
“In Suffolk County, when we get knocked down, we get right back up and we’re ready to fight,” said Suffolk Democratic chairman Richard Schaffer.
No other incumbents appeared to be ousted in either county, although results were not yet conclusive in Nassau's 9th district, where incumbent Republican Scott P. Strauss was leading Democrat Juleigh Chin.
