LA Mayor Lifts Emergency Declaration on Homelessness
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced progress in reducing homelessness, with a 17% drop in street homelessness over two years.
Mayor Bass lifted the local emergency declaration on homelessness, stating that the city now has the necessary tools to continue urgent action without the temporary order.
"Therefore, with the city firmly pointed in a new direction on homelessness, I am lifting the official declaration of a state of emergency."
The mayor noted that if "extraordinary authority" is needed to maintain or accelerate progress, she would reinstate the declaration.
