Sasha Suda, the director and chief executive of the Philadelphia Art Museum (PAM), was removed from her role on November 4.
She had been in the position for three years, following a three-year stint at the National Gallery of Canada.
According to Philadelphia Magazine, Suda was informed of her dismissal for "cause" via email, though the specific reason was not disclosed.
"As of today, director and chief executive Sasha Suda is no longer with the Philadelphia Art Museum,"
a museum spokesperson stated. Louis Marchesano, deputy director of curatorial affairs and conservation, will lead day-to-day operations while an interim director is identified.
Board members had complained about a lack of transparency surrounding the institution's recent rebranding.
