The Western Reserve Port Authority and Youngstown Historical Center of Industry & Labor are working together to relocate a 16,000-pound steel ingot.
This steel ingot was poured from the first heat of Republic Steel Corp.'s new basic oxygen furnace in 1965, marking a significant moment in history.
The ingot is currently located outside the main gate of the Pine Avenue Southwest site, which was sold to Kimberly-Clark Corp. in 2023 for the construction of an $800 million plant.
A port authority employee recognized the ingot's historic significance, having previously been employed at the former mill.
