PA systems, screens hacked with pro-Hamas messages at Kelowna, Victoria airports

Pro-Hamas Messages Disrupt Airports

On Tuesday, October 14, the Kelowna International Airport (YLW) and Victoria International Airport (YYJ) experienced a cyber security incident. The public address systems and screens were hacked, displaying pro-Hamas messages, including "Free Palestine" and cursing the U.S.

According to the airport, the incident started around 5 p.m. and caused some flights to be delayed. The unauthorized messaging was removed, and the flight information display screens were restored by 7 p.m.

"The YLW team has successfully removed the unauthorized messaging... and are continuing to work on restoring the PA system."

The City of Kelowna stated that the incident was limited to a cloud-based third-party software provider.
