PA's Elder Abuse Oversight Agency Shields Data on Those at Risk

The Pennsylvania Department of Aging is withholding information on the number of older adults left at risk of abuse or neglect after flawed county investigations.

Secretary Jason Kavulich, appointed by Shapiro and leading the department since 2023, claims it is more transparent than ever about "older adult protective services" in Pennsylvania.

The Department is aware of your request for more detailed information, and in an effort to further show our commitment to increased transparency, we are working to provide you with more responsive data.

A department spokesperson, Karen Gray, did not answer questions about the importance of this metric for public knowledge.

The department oversees and monitors the 52 county aging agencies' protective services work, covering the entire state.
