The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors is facing delays in the permit process for a routine maintenance dredge at Mill Creek public boat landing due to the potential presence of northeastern beach tiger beetles and a possible furlough of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service personnel.
According to David Kretz, Middlesex County Planning and Zoning Director, the permit review has been slowed down, causing a delay in the dredging process. Kretz reported this to supervisors on October 6.
"We thought this was going to be a pretty easy process (to have local contractors perform a maintenance dredge), but it does not appear that it is going to be so easy this time,"
said Kretz. This delay is a setback for the supervisors, who seek to address the recurring issue of silt and sand at the boat landing every 10 to 12 months.
