A south-west council is dissatisfied with the $2.57 million it will receive from wind farms this year, claiming it does not adequately offset the burden of hosting renewable energy projects.
Moyne Shire mayor Karen Foster stated that the monetary compensation, which will be received in lieu of rates in the 2025-26 financial year, will go into the organisation's general revenue stream and is separate from community benefit.
"no net benefit for our communities"
Mayor Foster emphasized that residents are missing out on potential benefits, including free electricity, which the council has continually advocated for.
