Marissa Monteith, a junior at Macomb Dakota, has been making a name for herself in girls golf.
It all started in eighth grade when her parents gave her an ultimatum: if she was going to give up softball, she would still have to play a school sport.
"My grandpa lives on a golf course and I've played golf for fun growing up. I guess I was pretty good at it, but never really took it seriously,"
recalled Monteith. She didn't take golf seriously until she got to high school, where she tried out for the golf team.
"My parents said there was no way I would just sit around after school and not do anything,"
she added. Monteith has been rising through the charts, and her dedication to the sport is paying off.
