Director Kevin Settle is not backing away from his support of a Parrot Island Waterpark expansion despite budget-busting water slide installation costs.
Acting Fort Smith City Administrator Jeff Dingman reported that the low bid to install the slides was $2.8 million, pushing the total cost to $6.35 million, beyond the board-approved budget of $4.2 million.
The city has already spent $3.55 million to acquire the slides and prep them for installation, according to Dingman.
Director Settle says the board should "do something very special" and fund the water slides.
