Nigel Farage Heckled in Commons

Nigel Farage suffered a defeat in the House of Commons as MPs voted down his proposal to leave the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

Farage, the Reform UK leader, proposed a 10-minute rule bill to withdraw from the ECHR. However, the Labour and Tory benches were largely empty, while dozens of Lib Dem MPs and opposition MPs from smaller parties attended and heckled him during his proposal.

MP: "Putin's pet!" Farage: "It's marvellous to see the intellectual levels of debate in this place, it really is"

The proposal was comfortably defeated by 154 votes to 96, resulting in a majority of 58.

Author's summary: Nigel Farage's proposal to leave ECHR was defeated.
