Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist and state assemblymember, will make history as the first Muslim and South Asian person to serve as New York City mayor.
Mamdani, 34, Ugandan-born, defeated former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa in Tuesday's election.
