Over the past decade, Los Angeles' streets have become significantly more lethal.
A particularly hazardous intersection is where South Figueroa crosses Slauson Avenue. This location has seen 17 felony hit-and-run collisions and five severe injuries over the past four years. Additionally, seven pedestrians have been struck while using the crosswalks.
In total, there were 66 serious collisions at this intersection in the Vermont Slauson neighborhood in South Los Angeles, making it the most dangerous in the city during that period. Notably, Figueroa had more serious collisions than any other intersection in Los Angeles.
Recently, Los Angeles streets have become even more lethal, with traffic fatalities exceeding the number of homicides for the past three years, resulting in over 300 deaths annually since 2022. The number of serious injuries from collisions and vehicle-pedestrian collisions also exceeds pre-COVID totals.
