Police Captain Killed, Sergeant Wounded in Shootout
A police captain of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 7 was killed, while another was injured in a shootout with three suspects during a police surveillance operation in Cebu City.
The fallen officer was identified as Police Captain Joel Deiparine, and the injured was Police Executive Master Sergeant Artchel Tero, both assigned to the CIDG Regional Field Unit 7.
Initial investigation showed that Deiparine and Tero were conducting surveillance on a certain Jun Manto, the subject of their Oplan "Paglalansag Omega", before the incident occurred at around 6 p.m. in Sitio Balaw, Barangay Sudlon 2.
No statement was given by the authorities regarding the current status of the suspects.
